Taught school as his parents, William Jennings Slay (Bill)- Principal of Cloverdale Junior High and Daisy Griffith Slay--Physical Education Teacher at Capital Heights Junior High. In 1969 Joe became President of the First National Bank of Ashford, Ashford, Alabama and was President and Chairman of the Board of First National Bank of Ashford until his death in November 2000. He was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ashford United Methodist Church where he also taught a Sunday School class. He was a founding board member of Ashford Academy. He, along with his wife JoAnn, raised three daughters and passed on to them a love for people, music and sports. A wonderful Daddy and a wonderful man.
